D1: Departure to Moncton
Morning drive to New Brunswick. D/S
D2: Moncton – Summerside (2 nights)
Morning visit to Anne of Green Gables, a historic site known for the famous story of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Later in the day, free time at Prince Edward Island National Park with its dunes and the Cavendish beaches. L/D
D3: Summerside – Cavendish – Summerside
Early in the day, visit the bottle houses: three unique buildings made of over 25,000 bottles. Stop at the impressive Gothic Revival church of Mont-Carmel. Visit the Acadian museum, where the story of these tenacious Islanders is told. Enjoy a regional lunch. In the afternoon, visit a typical oyster farm and learn more about this renowned delicacy. Return to the hotel. PD/D
D4: Summerside – Charlottetown – Magdalen Islands
In the morning, city tour of Charlottetown with a local guide. Discover the capital’s historic and maritime past; including photo stops at the replica of Province House the Lieutenant Governor’s house, the Confederation Arts Centre and Peakes Quay. Drive to Souris. Board the CTMA ferry. Dinner on your own. After a five-hour crossing, arrive at Cap-aux-Meules, the land of the Magdelinots. PD
D5: Magdalen Islands
At the beginning of the day, discover Cap-aux-Meules, the Main Island and town of the archipelago. Guided tour and photo stops, including one at the wooden church of La Vernière, a true architectural jewel. Stops at the port and the Côte à l’Étang-du-Nord site, a public park located near the picturesque fishing harbour of l’Étang-du-Nord. The colossal sculpture by Roger Langevin represents the fishermen, the effort and the solidarity of the people. Stop at Belle-Anse where the red sandstone cliffs crumble due to erosion. Visit of the original church of Fatima inspired by the modern movement. The exterior of the church is in the shape of a shell and is symbolic of the sea. In the afternoon, discover the Île du Havre-Aubert and its most important attraction: the historical site of La Grave. Classified as a historical site, this small pebble beach, a favorite place for fishing, recalls the time when cod was the main economic resource. Visit the Sea Museum. PD/D/S
D6: Magdalen Islands
In the morning, enjoy a guided tour of the northeastern part of the archipelago via Havre-aux-Maisons Island. Many consider it to be one of the most beautiful islands of the archipelago because it has kept its countryside look with its colorful houses. The smoothness of the relief contrasts with its red cliffs. Enjoy a guided tour of the Fumoir d’Antan, an exceptional setting for the smokehouses of the Magdalen Island, and learn about the origins of a century-old expertise. Visit the fascinating Centre d’interprétation des Cultures du Large to discover the world of shellfish farming, sea aquaculture and lobster fishing. Stop at the truly spectacular Dune-du-Sud beach along the red sandstone cliffs. After lunch, visit the Seal Interpretation Centre which focuses on the fascinating world of seals, a discovery visit with historical, scientific and ecological content. Photo stops in the villages of Grosse-Île, Old Harry and Grande-Entrée (the most important lobster fishing port in the Islands). PD/D/S
D7: Magdalen Islands
Before noon, possibility of an ecotouristic excursion (optional $). Admire the beauty of the landscapes and learn more on the geology, the marine fauna and the ornithology of the Islands. Lobster guédille lunch. Visit the parish of Bassin and stop at the Millerand wharf, where you will find fishing boats, lobster cages and much more. At the end of the day, visit the “Site d’Autrefois”, an immersion in the Magdalen and Acadian culture (island life, fishing, agriculture, family, etc.). Visit of Barbocheux. Return to the hotel for a lobster gratin dinner. PD/D/S
D8: Magdalen Islands – Fredericton
In the morning, board the ferry to Souris. In an area known for its beaches, this village has the majority of the potato processing plants on Prince Edward Island. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon, crossing of the Confederation Bridge. Drive to Fredericton.
Day 9: Fredericton – Return
